INDIA bloc meets ahead of Parl session, will raise Adani issue, demand JPC

Leaders of the opposition bloc INDIA met on Monday before the start of Winter Session of Parliament and decided to raise the issue of corruption allegations within the Adani Group and demand a JPC on the issue.

Opposition party leaders also took the decision to write to the Speaker of Parliament demanding that opposition leaders from both houses be invited to address the Constitution Day program on Tuesday. The letter would argue that if the Prime Minister can speak, why not the LoP, party sources said.

Several opposition members, including Kharge, have given adjournment notices to both Houses of Parliament over the issue.

“As the parliamentary session begins, the first step the government should take is to have a detailed discussion on the Adani saga which risks tarnishing India’s image on the global stage. Sources said INDIA bloc leaders also took the decision to demand the establishment of a joint parliamentary committee on issues surrounding the Adani Group.

Among those who attended the meeting were KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Nasir Hussain and Manickam Tagore of the Congress, as well as Ramji Lal Suman of the SP, TR Baalu โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹of the DMK, Tiruchi Siva and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and Supriya Sule of the NCPSP, AAP leader Raghav Chadha.

CPI(M) leader K. Radhakrishnan, CPI leader Sandosh Kumar and IUML leader ET Mohammed Basheer were also present.

RSP’s NK Premachandran, Kerala Congress leader K. Francis George, RJD’s Abhay Kumar Sinha, Dr Faiyaz Ahmad, MDMK’s Vaiko, CPI(ML)(L) leader Raja Ram Singh and BAP’s Rajkumar Roat were also present at the meeting.
